The Book's Setting

Dining Room

The dining room of Plas Newydd, where the numerous famous people who traveled to see The Ladies dined with them. Eleanor was very proud of the fact that she and Sarah could provide an entire meal from their own gardens and livestock.

Cat Painting
Photo Credits (both): Photographs by Mike Flory. Used by permission of Glyndwr District Council, Ruthin, Clwyd

This painting is not known to have belonged to The Ladies, but would be similar to those they owned. They had numerous pets, and their affection for the dog, Frisk, early in the screenplay, is in no way fabricated.
