The cottage when The Ladies first rented it in 1779. Its age at that time is unknown. It was indeed “perceived to be outside the town” as they are told by the rental agent in the film, Evan Pugh. The ruins of Dinas Bran, which feature in the fictional story, can be seen on the distant hill-top.
