The Book's Setting

St.Collen’s church in Llangollen, which dates from the late 6th or early 7th century. Eleanor, Sarah and Mary Carryl are buried just outside the entrance to St.Collen’s.

In the screenplay, Sarah makes a life saving visit to the vicar of St.Collen’s, Mr.Protherow, to ask his help in hiring a workman, because she and Eleanor are shunned on their arrival in Llangollen by the entire town.
